Windshield View
The OLD year is about done. The NEW a few hours away… You ready? Is anybody ever truly ready!
That’s one of the interesting things about being human. We get to be part of the old and new, kind of at the same time! Learning from the past can help us prepare for what’s ahead, as long as we don’t get stuck looking backwards too much! Also, looking ahead without losing touch with the past can help us make sense of both old and new!
Sort of like “driving a vehicle.” It’s best to primarily look ahead thru the windshield, while remembering where you’ve been, and keeping track of what’s in the rear & sideview mirrors.
As you get ready to “drive” into 2023, look back into 2022 and reflect on how you did with Jesus’ two simple, yet difficult, “driving” instructions:
> Love God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
> Love others as you love yourself.
If there’s room for improvement in your relationships with others or handling of responsibilities, admit it and ask God for some of Jesus’ expert help “behind the wheel” at home, work, school, in your neighborhood, and anywhere you “run into” others!
While well aware of our past and present struggles, God’s always been forward looking. He tells past/present humans alike:
“See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before the spring into beingI announce them to you.” Isaiah 42:9
“Forget the former things; don’t dwell on the past.See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up;do you not perceive it?” Isaiah 43:18-19
Let’s forge a bright 2023, following Jesus forward together!
