Dinner

We had a memorable dinner out recently.  It wasn’t just good take outor fast food on the run when busy.  It was a truly engaging experience which kept me thinking about it long after!  Funny how music, art, sports competition, and others things can be that way, too…

Adding to our dinner, was unexpected access to the co-owner and head chef who was humbly supporting the servers by washing glasses in the bar area.  He also fielded compliments and questions from customers nearby, sharing some taste secrets and hedging on others in order to keep those interested coming back for more.

After clearing our now-foodless dishes, our server asked, “Would you like to hear what’s on the dessert menu?” Before answering, we paused to savor the sensational dinner thus far.  Our first reaction was, “You’d better not.  We’ll be helpless if you describe them to us!”  She gave us a knowing smile, but before she left, we decided to go for it and shared a dessert which was so worth it!

Reflecting on this got me to thinking about Jesus.  Surprise!  Records insist Jesus carried himself humbly and was not impressive in appearance.  However, when he spoke to people- face to face or in groups small and large, it was an engaging experience with lasting impact. Jesus touched the hearts and souls of people (knowing and loving them along with having unique insight and authority) and led them forward into newness of life.

At some point, people had to decide if they wanted more and choose to follow & believe.  It’s still the same today!  Do you want more of Jesus now and going forward?  If so and you follow, it will be so worth it!  Let’s go for it, following Jesus forward toward a great 2023!

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you
and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble
in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Matthew 11:28-29
