Asleep

Sometimes it seems, or we mistakenly conclude, God has gone to sleep on us. Inattentive, checked-out, uninterested, given-up, or perhaps not even there at all…

You know, when our preparation and expectations are locked and loaded for a fastball down the middle with high hopes. Then life delivers a curve or change up, fooling us into a wild swing & miss leaving us frustrated, discouraged, even bitter or ready to quit…

What if God’s job in the universe and our lives, besides being Creator and Sustainer of all, is not to protect us from all pain, hardship, and disappointment? Or not to insulate us from all others’ mistakes or our own selfishness choices and habits?

What if it’s more about God inviting us to follow him and walking with us into the certain and often stormy uncertainty of faith in God and others, love for God and others, humility before God and with others- that can bind us together in all our relationships and responsibilities?

That’s the Jesus I see living large in the Bible and in today’s people of faith! Loving us, leading us, growing us, sacrificing for us. And increasing our faith, love, humility, hope, and togetherness. Let’s embrace the certain uncertainty of following Jesus in real life!
