Get Outside
Evening walks are a relatively new discovery for me. I’ve covered lots of ground on foot over the years- circling bases, mowing grass, traversing 18 holes, distance running, etc… But these excursions are different.
I think it’s the relaxed pace and that I win without task, score, or clock! I get to reflect on the activity of the day, receive outdoor breezes, noises, sights, and smells. And be restored by birds chirping, bushes blooming, unplanned encounters with others, speaking with my Creator, and getting to behold sunsets, often magnificent with color!
1 “The heavens declare the glory of God;the skies proclaim the work of his hands.2 Day after day they pour forth speech;night after night they reveal knowledge…14 …May these words of my mouthand this meditation of my heartbe pleasing in your sight, Lord,my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:1-2, 14
Am I more alive when outside? Probably not, but I often feel that way. Since God uses his glory outdoors to speak into us, let’s listen up!
