Beyond Harbor

This week I was reminded of an inspiring poster I’d hung above my desk and looked at almost daily for a few years in my early 20’s…  It was of a brilliant sunset over a vast body of water. Far out, near the horizon, was the outline of a sailboat with the sunset behind it. The caption read: “A ship in a harbor is safe, but that’s not what ships are built for!” (John A. Shedd)

As a young person facing a growing world of opportunities, uncertainties, and consequential choices, the poster appealed to my sense of adventure and desire to see more and be more. Also, as a newer believer in Jesus, I wanted to see where this faith/following relationship, with this One who seemed to know and resonate with me so deeply, would take me.

In a nutshell, I can tell you that it’s still quite a ride!  Also, there is no greater or more satisfying adventure than learning from Jesus how to-“Love God with all yourself and Love Your Neighbor as yourself…”  (Jesus) …participating fully in the relationships & responsibilities entrusted to you!

In the nitty-gritty of real life, let’s trust & sail into it with Jesus!
