Towing

Halfway up a steep hill, all the warning lights on my car’s dash suddenly lit up like a Christmas tree and I lost power. Not good! I had just enough momentum to get to a safe place to park and regroup…

Fortunately for me, as I stood in the hot sun next to my new paper weight, I knew who to call. A friend in the towing business! One of his people arrived quickly and got me to the auto recombobulation shop without incident. Such a relief! Could’ve been a bigger headache and got me going forward again.

I bring this up for two reasons.  First, as a shout out to the service pros in the Towing & Recovery business! They show up at all hours and in all weather to help people and their vehicles during difficult and traumatic times. Also, they have 3 times more fatalities than all other first responders combined. Let that sink in…

Second, as reminder to Christ-followers that we are also called to be service pros, in terms of paying attention to the people around us and showing up to help physically, relationally, compassionately, spiritually, encouragingly, and even financially according to another’s needs. Jesus said this was, “Loving your neighbor as yourself. And was integral to and indicative of truly, “Loving God with all of yourself.”  Let that sink in…

As one of Jesus’ people, let’s open our eyes, hearts, and schedules in order to show up and serve others as Jesus has served us!
