Dockside Dinner

After a relaxing drive thru the lush SE Wisconsin countryside, we arrived at a favorite outdoor destination of ours. Excellent pizza, fun atmosphere, and live music awaited us! But we missed the memo that most everyone in the nearby counties would already be there. With parking and kitchen capabilities overrun (ugh!) and our hunger growing, we pivoted in a hurry!

While I drove us away from the throng, Laura searched her phone for a place to land in the unfamiliar surroundings. Quickly (hunger focuses), she found a casual bar & grill by a lake and said, “Let’s try it!” Ten minutes later, we were seated on a deck overlooking a lake asking the server if they’d feed us.

They sure did in multiple ways!  We shared fish tacos and a Rueben sandwich that were both quite delicious. Also, we took in the beauty of the sun setting over the lake and took home the abundance we couldn’t finish! What missed pizza? What disappointment? What a great, refreshing discovery!

Reminds me, in ways, of when Jesus and his disciples were unexpectedly surrounded by 5,000+ hungry people. Jesus fed them spiritual food with his presence and words of life and, as it got later, told his disciples to feed the people physical food, too! When they couldn’t get past the limited resources at hand, Jesus stepped in and multiplied it so it fed & satisfied everyone, with an abundance leftover!

Jesus still meets people where they’re at (location & condition), being and providing food that satisfies both body & soul. Like then, he calls us to believe, receive, follow, and share generously with others.  Let’s do this!
