Happy New Year! Hard to believe it’s been almost 9 years since I sat in the class of a bright-eyed and engaging Sunday School teacher with my son, Josh. Before starting, the teacher personally greeted people in the overflow room who’d have to watch on live video due to the class being full.

The “class” was in the church’s worship space and the 91-year-old teacher was 39th President, James Earl Carter Jr (Jimmy). This week, he passed into eternity and God’s glory at age 100, after a lifetime of following Jesus Christ with diligent work, whatever the vocation, and service to others. Well done, 39!

As we begin 2025, I’m reminded that he followed Jesus as a small business owner, farmer, engineer, naval officer, and state & national politician. And then as a tireless advocate for people struggling through initiatives to create affordable housing, eradicate disease, ensure fair elections, and promote peace and human dignity.

Jesus calls us all to follow him as positive difference makers in the relationships and responsibilities of our lives and beyond! Jesus is good news to the world and desires us to live in a dynamic partnership with him that loves and serves others. Let’s center on Jesus and get to it!
