HOHM

Four months ago, headed from Chicago to a remote area of Madagascar, a far-off place I knew very little about. I went in response to a nudge from God, the welcome of a small team going from another church, and the support and prayers of our church.

Now, I’ve been blessed to travel abroad many times, both relaxing as a tourist and serving on mission teams. However, while fairly experienced in such things, nothing could have prepared me for the depth and richness of this experience!

We went to an amazing orphanage & school, House of Hope Madagascar (HOHM), in a rugged, semi-arid region of this Texas-sized island nation with 30+ million people, which is 4th poorest in the world.

Its people struggle with grinding poverty from the scarcity and/or instability of food, clean water, & electricity that breaks down families and leaves most with no hope for their futures. We witnessed this driving from the capital to the interior, interacting with small groups of people along the rugged, beautiful terrain, heading for HOHM!

Upon arrival, the energy, joy, and love seen in the children, teachers & staff was an inspiring & uplifting contrast! Throughout our visit- playing, teaching, serving, eating, interacting with, and worshiping alongside HOHM’s children & adults, it was clear this Jesus-centered oasis of love & investment in children was giving hope that will last and bring forth positive change for generations to come!

That’s the vision of HOHM and its founding leaders Pastor Jean & wife Aina! To Reach, Rescue, & Raise Up Children- thru the love of Jesus Christ, providing are, community & quality education- to help hem become future servant leaders that bless & positively impact people, communities, and their nation!
